Record-Setting Departure From Nexans Halden: Aurora Sailed Out Yesterday With Historic Cable Load

A historic moment unfolded yesterday at the Nexans Halden plant as the cable-laying vessel Nexans Aurora departed carrying a record 9,731 tons of cable — the highest load ever in Nexans’ history.

This achievement exceeds the previous record from 2023 by 256 tons. It is both a record for Nexans Aurora and for the Halden plant, marking the largest load ever supplied and loaded on one keel from the facility since its first delivery to Nexans Skagerrak in 1976.

Pascal Radue, Executive Vice President of Nexans Power Transmission, emphasized the broader significance of the milestone:

“This accomplishment showcases the full strength of our Power Transmission business. From engineering and manufacturing to project delivery and fleet operations, the entire organization demonstrates discipline, reliability, and commitment to excellence. What happened in Halden yesterday is a collective achievement across our value chain.”

Bruno Daguet, Plant Manager in Halden, highlighted the factory achievement that made the record possible:

“This record reflects the capability and dedication of the Halden plant. Producing, testing, handling, and loading 9,731 tons of subsea cable is a demanding industrial operation. The precision, safety performance, and teamwork shown by the Halden teams are remarkable — and they deliver at this level consistently. I am very proud of what the factory has achieved.”

From the operational side at sea, Knut Flage, Vessel Director, focused on what the accomplishment means for the vessel:

“This is a major milestone for our vessel Nexans Aurora. Handling a load of this size safely demands precision every step of the way. Nexans Aurora was purpose-built for high-capacity, deep-water installation work, and this record load demonstrates exactly what she is capable of.”

Since its first major keel load in 1976, the Halden facility has delivered some of the world’s most advanced subsea cable systems. Yesterday’s record-setting departure reinforces its position as a cornerstone in Nexans’ mission to enable the global energy transition with reliable, large-scale subsea infrastructure.
