Fire alarm

Nexans offers a comprehensive range of all cable types that may occur in any fire alarm system. These cables are normally used for indoor installations.

Fire alarm systems often feature large volumes and many units/pieces of equipment being connected, which requires cables that are good to work with. Nexans’s cables are not only easy to stripe but are also optimized for enabling straightforward, hidden installations. Choose from individual cables with parallel conductors for smaller, as well as conventional systems. For larger, addressable fieldbus systems, we recommend stranded conductors. If cables need to function during a fire (functionally safe), make sure you use ALSECURE® PLUS or ALSECURE® PREMIUM cables.

The right cable for the right purpose
Conventional systems can be used cables featuring parallel or stranded conductors. We offer PVXP with parallel conductors. For addressable systems, we recommended cables with stranded conductors such as IFLI-R or PT Signal.

You only know whether you chose the right cable after a fire
Your cable choice has an impact on its performance in fire conditions, especially in terms of:

  • fire spread
  • damage limitation
  • maintaining functions during a fire

Cables that prevent fire spread
Cables extending through both the floors and walls are definitely potential dispersal routes for fire. A fundamental requirement in terms of fire safety is thus that you use cables whose properties prevent fire from spreading. There can be reasons why there are local fire spreading classifications, but these should always be defined. Our cables feature clearly declared fire spreading classifications that are advisory and easy to understand.

Halogen-free saves lives and money
Smoke and gases from burning cables can pose serious risks to humans, animals and machines. These problems can easily be reduced through the use of halogen-free cables. In the event of fire, halogen-free cables spread significantly less smoke and it does not corrode metals. This also makes it easier to evacuate smoke-filled areas more quickly, which can save lives.

Also works in the event of fire
The most critical cables should also be fire-resistant. This means that the cable must be guaranteed to continue functioning during a fire. In order to ensure this is possible, specialist insulation materials, such as mica bands or self-ceramicizing materials, are used as they maintain their insulation abilities even at high temperatures during a fire. The cable retains its shape, the conductors are kept separated and the cable continues to work. Functionally safe cables are often used for centralized emergency lighting systems, as well as smoke hatches, smoke/gas fans and elevators.

Our range features fire-resistant cables for both electrical supply and communication purposes.
