WEBINAR: Passive fire safety with Jørn Davidsen (BFO) | 26 May 2025

SUMMARY:

In this webinar, Jørn Davidsen, head of the Fire Safety Professional Association (BFO), provides a clear overview of the current challenges related to fire safety in Norwegian buildings.

He points out that although Norway has a zero-vision for fire-related injuries and fatalities, it lacks effective tools and incentives to achieve this goal. Many buildings have significant vulnerabilities – especially concerning escape routes, fire compartments, and the spread of smoke and flames.

Davidsen refers to international examples of better inspection routines and construction quality, highlighting the need for independent control throughout the entire building process, from design to execution.

Jan Erik Nilsen from Nexans then demonstrates how cables impact fire safety, and how halogen-free cables produce less smoke and fewer toxic gases in the event of a fire. This can contribute to safer escape conditions, reduced damage, and potentially lower insurance costs.

He also explains how you can usually identify a halogen-free cable by its name, and why these cables should be chosen both for new constructions and renovation projects.
