The Skagerrak cables
The Skagerrak cables generated international attention and lead to an international breakthrough for STK. We won the tender process, and signed the contract in 1973..
The two cables were laid in 1976 and 1977. With 130 km they were the world's longest and heaviest until then (almost 50 kg per meter, and deepest down to 550 m). With 250 kV and a transmission capacity of 500,000 kW, the project was considered at the limit of what was possible.
Thanks to STK's long experience and extensive testing, the project was a success.
Since than we have manufactured and installed Skagerrak 2, 3 and 4. Skagerrak 4 was officially opened 12. mars 2015.
