Strengthen power outage preparedness along the Norwegian coast

Nexans Norway has been awarded a NOK 134 million contract with REN Sjøkabelberedskap AS, which involves Nexans Halden supplying 52 km of 170 kV submarine cable for new emergency preparedness stores at Stord.

REN Sjøkabelberedskap is based in Bergen and is an amalgamation of 26 power companies from along the Norwegian coast, from Østfold to Finnmark. They have joined up to develop a common and standardized emergency preparedness facility for cables and equipment.

"We are delighted to have been commissioned to supply two out of five cable types for the stores, as well as end terminations and cable joints.  The contract also contains options that will allow its value to as much as double, as the stores are gradually called on", explains Nexans Norway's Tender Manager Atle Traaen.

Cable and equipment from Nexans Norway are to be delivered by spring 2018.

The standards are adapted to the power companies that co-own REN, including BKK, Trønderenergi, Eidsiva, Lyse and NEAS.

The contract is signed by Vincent Dessale, Executive Vice President Submarine High Voltage, Nexans Norway, Anne-Lise Aukner, CEO of Nexans Norway and Stig Fretheim, CEO of REN Sjøkabelberedskap.
