So what is CPR?

In 2011 a new EU regulation concerning the CE marking of cables was published, to take binding effect on 1 July 2017. The new regulation sets out test methods and fire classes for cables used in buildings.

The European Construction Products Regulation is usually abbreviated to CPR, and aims to guarantee a harmonised performance standard for our products. The cables affected by CPR are power cables, optical cables and telecommunication cables intended for permanent incorporation in buildings and civil engineering works. “Buildings and civil engineering works” are all buildings and works covered by the Swedish Planning and Building Act.

The purpose of the regulation is to guarantee reliable information through equivalent technical specifications and a common language. This benefits users, manufacturers and the regulatory authorities alike. The product cannot be CE marked unless it has successfully undergone testing and a declaration of performance has been issued.

It is up to us, the manufacturer, to create a declaration of performance (DoP) for each product family, summarising all the information about the product and its certification. All the information will be available from NEXANS TRACKER, an online tool to be launched on our web site later in the year.

Transitional period
1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017 will be a transitional period before the new rules come into force and our products receive CE markings.
Our cables will keep their existing name and E number.
